Childrens’ Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) is an important local charity that raises vital funds for equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research. They support children and families who receive treatment from the Children’s Heart Unit based at Freeman Hospital. They also support other hospitals providing care for young cardiac patients throughout the Northeast.
We were approached by one of the trustees of CHUF for some property advice. They had a lease on some office space at the old Fleming Hospital in Jesmond. This lease was ending, and they had received a significant dilapidations claim from their landlord. This claim was unexpected and not budgeted for. Funds would have to be used to pay this tenants dilapidations claim that otherwise would have gone to providing equipment and support at the Freeman Hospital Children’s Unit.
We were delighted to review the tenants dilapidations claim free of charge and through our experience and negotiation, we reached a conclusion with the landlord to settle at less than 50% of the claim.
